Using A Holistic Approach to Solving Problems

Therapy is an amazing place to explore setbacks. Our thoughts about mistakes, growth, and our stories about our set points, effect how we relate and interact with a setback. Setbacks often point to a new and unfamiliar path which may introduce old stories and rigid responses regarding expansion and growth.

It’s interesting to me, how similar business strategies, therapeutic skill and our emotional life intertwine and influence each other creating a new blueprint for navigating setbacks, growth and the inevitable change that it brings, is the first step to creating the abundant life that you want personally and in your work life. This may mean raising your ceiling on what you expect and want for yourself and being able to communicate it clearly. Therapy is helpful place to explore the stories of fear moving in and possibly sabotaging new efforts for growth.

It’s helpful to ask yourself what is means to make a mistake and what story or myth maybe showing up for you. For example, if you make a mistake or need help in your work, what words and fears are coming up for you? Often we are fearful that a mistake or need to set a boundary will separate us from love and connection.

Expansion, growth, and mistakes are helpful areas to explore how we organize what we want and what we need. Using the right hemisphere of the brain in problem solving is an amazing tool to help organize your thoughts and energy about a problem. Writing down and drawing a picture about what you want instead of the difficulty engages the right hemisphere of the brain and allows for a more holistic approach for addressing a problem. Then write down two things that will move you toward this new experience that you are wanting and let go of the final outcome. You can check back in with your want for a desired outcome and look at your picture a few weeks later and see where you thoughts may have shifted.

I love the journal prompts by Rupi Kaur, titled Self Love, these prompts help bring your most loving parts to the space and task of problem solving. So many times, we are counter manifesting our dreams by focusing on the fear and sitting in fearful and reactive place.
